The history of Mars Whisky began in 1949, shortly after the end of the war. Two years after the head office and Tsunuki factory were restored after being completely destroyed in an air raid, the company obtained a license to manufacture whiskey. Under the guidance of advisor Kiichiro Iwai, the company produced its first whiskey. In 1960, the company completed construction of its Yamanashi factory as a base for the production of western liquor, and entered the whiskey business in earnest. The western liquor brand "Mars" was born, selected from a public competition.
